Seek First His Righteousness…

Matthew 6:33
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well”

This verse was a main theme in my recent presentation on Simplifying Homeschool.  Yet, this applies in every area of our lives.
When we seek God’s will first in our lives, and not our own, it is such a joy.  Even though at time it can be difficult to surrender our “wants” to His “needs” for us, there is simply no other way.
He created us, and His purposes for us are far greater than what we may think we want.  Five years ago I never would have imagined to be where I am today.  A homeschooling mom?  And one who is {somewhat} successful  at it~ and encouraging others?  No way.  Not ever what I *wanted* or ever *believed* would be in store for me.
But now I wouldn’t imagine it any other way.
When my husband and I were married, we had this entire passage from Matthew read  at our wedding.  How amazing, that it has followed us through our marriage so often.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:25-34
We have seen first hand time and again that when we seek first His righteousness, and His kingdom, He blesses us.
We will continue to pursue His will for our lives.  That applies to homeschool and to life.  In our homeschool, my goal is to teach my kids to seek Him first.

As I mentioned on Monday in my presentation…

I don’t want to be like Martha running around worrying about all of the details and the extra “stuff”, but like Mary…sitting at Jesus’ feet… yearning for truth.
And to see my kids doing the same…

sitting at Jesus’ feet, yearning for truth….
Now that is a picture…
