Today was our first official homeschool day for this year. I went to bed last night, a little sad to see summer end, but full of anticipation for the year ahead. Before bed, my husband prayed over our homeschool and we asked each child what they were looking forward to this year. It was really a sweet time! These were my thoughts last night that I posted on my facebook page:
Tomorrow begins our 8th year of homeschooling. I never in my wildest dreams imagined we would be where we are now in our journey back then. I was a scared mom and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Here I am, in awe of God’s work- His plans and purposes always prevail!
We prayed over our homeschool tonight and claimed this verse for our homeschool:
Ephesians 3:20
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”
This morning my husband went to Dunkin’ Donuts extra early to get some treats to surprise everyone as they woke up:
I also displayed the verse we chose for our homeschool year so everyone could see it as they came down the stairs.
We had a rough start with some attitude adjusting, but before we knew it, we were back in the groove. We are studying the Gospels together as a family and Ancient Rome. Then individual work was done and after lunch, we read together and finished up the rest of our work.
I will say, by the end of the day I was so.so.so.tired. The kind of tired where any noise irks you and you just want to curl up in bed until tomorrow. The kind of tried that makes you unable to think straight and then you wonder why in the world am I doing this?
Yes there were battles today, but there were also blessings. I loved seeing my now 7th grader take her assignment sheet for the week up to her room and organize her time for the rest of the week. I loved science with my boys. I loved the excitement of learning new things. I loved when the preschooler asked to make a “con-aption {contraption.} “
I am choosing to focus on the blessings and not the battles. Ultimately, like our verse for the year says, we possess a BIG power. The power that comes from the Lord-
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” Ephesians 3:20
I don’t know about you, but I just love that- His power works in us. Truth be told, I could not get through a single day without His power. It’s a wonderful thing to know that His power works in us-I do not do this on my own. And He will do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine…I can’t fathom it! If anyone had told me when I first started homeschooling that little kindergartner, without a clue the journey that lay ahead…if I anyone had told me where I would be today… I would have never believed it. I can only imagine what the next eight years has in store for our family…
So I am thankful today for His power, for the battles that make us stronger, and for the blessings in between…
