Simply Family: What I Learned at our Little Cottage in the Woods…

We spent the past weekend taking a little family getaway. A much needed retreat.  We found this quaint little cottage on the property of a farm. The owners rent out the cottage, which is 300 years old dating back to 1690.  The cottage was also home to Torres during the Revolutionary War and Washington and his troops stayed right down the road at one point.  So much history in this little cottage.

The cottage has been updated to provide modern conveniences such as plumbing, a full bathroom, kitchen, and heat.  Otherwise the stone walls are still exposed, and the winding staircase to the loft bedrooms in tact.  We took a step back in time…

What I learned from our time spent in the cottage was this:

We need very little to make us happy.

We loved having nothing to do except play in the woods, walk by the stream, and cozy up indoors. The kids played games, but mostly loved playing in the loft.  They mainly enjoyed being together.

I asked my daughter why everyone seemed to get along so well on the trip and she replied, “We were closer.”
Closer physically, and definitely in family bonding.

I know the Lord is teaching me so many things lately.  I am grateful for this time away to really connect with each other and connect with him as He reveals His plans for our family…
