I don’t ever remember a time where any THING has provided lasting happiness. Or more so, contentment.
No THING has ever made me content.
People do.
Places do.
And my God does.
Contentment actually has nothing to do with happiness.
I am finding more and more each day that stuff does not provide me any lasting happiness. Sure there are thigns I enjoy….{my iphone and laptop are at the top of the list ;)} Yet, when it comes down to it, they do nothing to provide for my content state of being.
“for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” Phil 4:11-12
Contentment doesn’t come from circumstances, but from God. It is something I can not explain to someone who does not have it. It is inner peace no matter what goes on around you.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7
I am realizing everyday that I am not impressed by having stuff. I am not impressed by having things but by people who are DOING things.
I want to do things. I want to serve in this world and give God all the glory.
I am just not looking to get filled up by stuff.
Am I feeling out of place in the world?
Sometimes.
But it doesn’t matter. I will choose to follow Him even when it is hard.
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
