What better way to enjoy summer than an outdoor cookout. You don’t have to heat up the house by using the oven, and everyone can enjoy sitting outside. We started making grilled pizzas last year and they are so fun!
I use my homemade pizza dough recipe:
1 1/3 cups water
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tsp. salt
4 cups bread flour
2 tsp. yeast
Add all ingredients to bread maker. Set on dough cycle.
To make it on the grill, simply roll out small rounds to a personal pizza size. Put them onto foil. Coat well with olive oil. Slide them off the foil onto hot grill. Grill the first side about 3 minutes. Then flip over and add toppings. Grill another 3 minutes.
These are so fun especially if you are having guests, because you can grill up a bunch of different kinds, and everyone can sample different ones. Makes great appetizers as well!
Some ideas for toppings besides traditional sauce and cheese:
Fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden with mozzarella
Roasted veggies (my favorite) with feta
Grilled chicken
Mexican style-cheddar, meat, tomatoes, fresh scallions, and cilantro
Salad pizza-Lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, balsamic
Pesto pizza using fresh homegrown basil, topped with parmesan and tomatoes
We love experimenting with this. The possibilities are endless, and they are all so delicious. Enjoy!
