The “New Norm”…

Every morning we have been consistent with doing a devotion, Bible reading, and a few worship songs together.  This has been a huge blessing in my life.  It has made us start our day with God and our days have consistently been smoother.

I love to look over at the kids while they are singing the worship songs…to see their faces smiling, opening their mouths wide and belting out praises, and most of all seeing the look in their eyes when they sing to God.

This morning routine has become the “norm” to them…

Not school buses…
Not opening bells…
Not keeping up with their peers on the latest fads…
Not texting, sexting, or bullying…

Nope

Praising God.  It is the norm to them.  It is how we open our day as a family.

I love this new norm.

Today as I read about a fellow writer from Heart of the Matter Online, who lost her 22 month old son in a tragic accident at home this week(read about it here), I can’t help but feel like I need to cherish these moments with my kids.  God has ordained each of their lives, and the truth is, I do not know if He has ordained them to live longer than me or not.

So right now, I am embracing our new norm.  May I not look back ever, and say….I wish we had done things differently, or spent more time…

In the grand scheme of things, the norms of the world do not matter to me…to spend eight hours a day apart from our beliefs, and then try to convince the kids that God is more important.  We need to live out what is important NOW.

God isn’t something for them to know later…or just on Sunday.  He is to be known each second of our lives.  He created us to live for Him.

So I will continue to embrace our new norm…
until the day He calls us all home.
