I am planning to do a big purge and have a garage sale this spring. I really can’t wait to get rid of some clutter. As simple as I try to keep things, our house always seems to accumulate “stuff” again.
With six people in our family, of course there is lots of stuff.
Yet, it creeps in gradually getting bigger and it starts to stress me out.
We are beginning to plan for our dream RV trip this summer, so I figure we can also earn some money from our sale to go towards the trip.
What I am planning to sell:
- Clothes
- Books
- Old linens
- Kitchen stuff
- Old tools
- Toys
- Knick knack type stuff
- Baby items (boo hoo)
Some of the stuff is easy to part with. I am what I call the “opposite of a hoarder.” I am constantly wanting to get rid of stuff.
But there are a few things, like the baby items that are truly hard. Yet, they are just things and I need to live in the present, and for the future. Never in the past.
Holding onto a baby swing doesn’t make the memory of the babe sleeping in there any sweeter. I have the “babies” right here with me every day.
- Are you currently using it?
- What is the benefit to keep it?
- Is it worth more time to organize or take care of, then to actually use it? (for example the abundance of toys-are they just taking up space or are they being used)
- Will there be a bigger benefit from tossing something that to keeping it? (for example more space gained)
Simplifying physical clutter can really help lessen the stress of our days. The more organized we are, and the less there is to take care of, the more time to do big things. The more our focus is clearer to do big things.
And for us, working toward our family RV trip is worth more than holding onto material items. The RV trip is an opportunity for us to spend a unique time as a family, learning about new areas, getting out of our comfort zone, meeting new people, and trusting the Lord above all.
I can’t wait to speak on the road too and meet some of my dear readers!
So let us… Simply…Live For Him…Have Less and Do More!
