Simply...Living For Him

What Are You Seeking?

“I need to do this for me…I need to have this…I need this to be happy…I need….”

Somewhere along the lines in our society we have replaced HIM with ME. Everywhere we look there are books, banners, and blogs telling us to take care of ME.

Yes, God created us and He wants the best for us, and He wants us to take care of ourselves.

But …what I am saying is, taking care of ourselves, doesn’t begin with us.
It begins with Him.

Our life begins with HIM. He created us. He ordains our steps. It is all about Him. Not us.
Do you trust him to take care of you?

When we seek Him first, He will care for our needs.

Our job is to put others first, humbly.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves…

Philippians 2:3

We do not have to consider ourselves before others, because God clearly tell us to take care of others…and then trust Him to take care of us. If we are seeking Him first, He will provide for our needs.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33

Even with our kids…we need not see them as a distraction from what we want…from our comfort…they ARE our priority. We are to put their needs above ours, even when we don’t feel like another game of checkers, or another messy craft. It is a small sacrifice, with a big reward.

How many times do we think they are interfering with our comfort? We want to have time to ourselves (NOT a bad thing, we DO need that at times), we want peace and quiet, we want no messes….

We want to be mothers without all the mess.

But….

Kids are messy. They interfere with our peace and quiet. They interfere with our  comfort.

Nothing worth doing is easy! So instead of focusing on our needs, what would happen if we truly did value their needs above ours?

Let’s trust God to take care of us. We will be blessed.

We are a society of comfort seekers. Seeking after our own comfort. I don’t see that in Scripture. I see that we are to be God seekers. And God seekers…they seek after the comfort of others. They seek Him first.

Consider others above ourselves. And not because we will be rewarded, or recognized  but because we love the Lord and want to obey. There is a difference. We can’t do this out of guilt, or obligation. It must be a heart turned to the Lord out of love.

So I ask you, are you a comfort seeker or a God seeker? I am so convicted of this myself, which is where the inspiration to write this came from. I even tremble as I type. I am such a comfort seeker. Yet, I want to be a God seeker…

Join me in seeking Him above all else?
