Before Your Can Share Jesus, You Need to Know Him Yourself

One of the most important things to do before you even start to evangelize is to make sure you are spending time with the Lord first. How can you share what you don’t know?

But guess what? You don’t have to have all the theological answers, biblical knowledge, and facts. People will see Him because Christ lives in you. Spend time with Him. Become more like Him. It truly is the first step to evangelism.

Many never evangelize because they think they may not have all the answers. But you don’t need to. The Holy Spirit will always lead you in your conversations. But you must ask Him to lead you. Seek the Lord and trust Him to work through you.

Don’t make evangelism about what you can do. Make it about what God can do through you.

Simply start by sending time with Him each day. In Word and prayer. People will recognize Him in you.

One way to be encouraged in your walk with the Lord is to join us in our Women’s Community! We are women who are encouraging one another in their walk. We provide lots of resources for you to spend time in the Word and grow as a disciple of Christ!

Simply Go! is a new initiative of the Simply Living for Him ministry that focuses on missional living in the lives of everyday women. Based on Acts 4:13, which describes the disciples as ordinary men who had been changed by an extraordinary God, and those around them simply recognized that they had been with Jesus. As we begin to approach Spring, we have some ideas that we will move forward with for our Simply Go! initiative. We will share resources, new challenges, and encouraging blog articles about being missional in your everyday life.

We want to encourage you that you can be missional right where you are–in your home, community, and everyday life. You simply need to reflect Jesus! So while Simply Living for Him provides resources to help you spend time with Jesus, Simply Go! is the next step in then shining that light!

This world is getting darker each day and it is our duty and privilege to shine the light of Christ! You will find challenges, ideas, encouragement, and resources in this section.

Simply Go! and Love Your Neighbor

In the middle of winter it is often easy to cocoon yourself and not reach out too much to your neighbor. The days are dark and cold and it is easy to focus inward. But there are many things you can do right form your home to love on your neighbor and share the Light of Christ.

Shovel snow for your neighbor. Don’t ask. Just do it! Let them experience an unexpected blessing.

Write letters/cards. This is a lost art these days. Sure you can text or email any time, but there is something special about receiving a hand written letter. It means someone took time to sit down and write! Include some encouraging Bible verses.

Send a meal! Use the Door Dash app or similar and send some warm soup, a hot lunch, or even a coffee and treat. There are so many options these days. Include an encouraging message or make it anonymous!

Be an Internet missionary! From the comfort of your home, you can share the Gospel! Use your space of the Internet for good. When folks are caught up in the negativity, your positivity may be just what they need. Point to Jesus! Share Scripture or words of encouragement. There are enough words of division these days.

Pray. This involves nothing but time between you and the Lord. Pray for your neighbors. Pray for your communities. Pray for the Light to penetrate this dark world. Then pick one specific person that needs the Lord and commit to pray for them each day for a month. Watch what the Lord does!

Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God

As part of our initiative for Simply Go! sometimes we will share articles to encourage you in ways to be more missional in your everyday life and sometimes we will share resources to equip you. Today I wanted to share a resource that may be helpful as you prepare yourself to be missional in your life- at home, in your community, and beyond!

Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God by J.I. Packer

From the publisher:

If God is in control of everything, can Christians sit back and not bother to evangelize? Or does active evangelism imply that God is not really sovereign at all? J. I. Packer shows in this new edition to the popular IVP Classics how both of these attitudes are false. In a careful review of the biblical evidence, he shows how a right understanding of God’s sovereignty is not so much a barrier to evangelism as an incentive and powerful support for it. With over 100,000 copies in print, Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God is truly a classic that should be read by every Christian.

I would love to hear from you if you have read it, or if you read it! Let’s encourage one another in our mission for Christ!

Simply Go! in the New Year

Last year we began an initiative at Simply Living for Him called “Simply Go!” My intention was to provide a space on the blog to share encouragement and ideas or resources to help women be missional in their everyday lives. You do not have to go around the world to be a missionary. In fact, you ARE one in your life every day. First at home and then in your community.

Well, 2021 became a crazy year, and that initiative got put on the backburner. But I do hope to start back up here and provide blog posts and encouragement again in this area. This world needs JESUS!! This world is getting darker each day. And really, the only thing that will change the world is Jesus. Changed hearts will change the world! So today, I want to share with you SIMPLE ways to be missional every day.

The first and most important thing I want to remind you is this: Disciples make disciples. The most important thing you can do to share Christ is to spend time with Him yourself. Because when you do, people see that in you naturally. You don’t even have to say a word. They will see Him and want to know more. Building a relationship is the bridge to sharing the Gospel.

One of my favorite passages in the Bible describes this so well with the early disciples:

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 ESV

Do people recognize you have been with Jesus?

If you want to be missional and share the Gospel, don’t try so hard. The Holy Spirit will be evident in you and will give you the words when needed. Your job is simply to fill up on the Word, spend time with Him, and be in prayer. Let the Spirit work in you. Don’t try to be the Spirit in someone’s life. But overall, the best thing you can do is spend time with the Lord yourself.

Then there are simple and tangible ways to share grace and love these days. Because let’s face it, the world needs lots of grace and love these days! Here are some ideas:

Send a card: Let’s go back to the old days- send a handwritten note. Take time to write a letter or a card, not for any reason but to let someone know you are thinking of them. Add a Bible verse and note of encouragement. People want to know that they are thought about. And are loved.

Drop something on the porch: A flower arrangement, a coffee, a treat, or some groceries…anything to let someone know they are thought about and they are cared for. It doesn’t have to be big to show someone they are loved. Even better, do it anonymously!

Call someone: Oh, how late 1990s of me to suggest this! I know many of us (myself included) have a love-hate or hate-hate relationship with the phone! Why is that? I have no idea. But let’s get over ourselves. Sometimes hearing another voice at the end of the line is so necessary. Ask them, “How can I pray for you today?” Then do it. If they’re not the praying type, don’t worry about making them uncomfortable. The Spirit is at work, remember? Not you. Let them feel that love at the moment. As uncomfortable as you think it will be, imagine their surprise when someone loves them enough to pray! Their uncomfortableness is with it being something new to them, not with you!

Run an errand: Many folks can’t get out these days, so while you are running errands, ask if you can pick something up for them? A simple act that can mean so much.

Lastly, SMILE. Be positive. There is enough negativity in the world. And smiles are contagious. And the GOSPEL is contagious. But a negative and complaining Spirit doesn’t draw people to HIM. So focus on HIM, smile, and share the love!

Do you have any ideas to add? Let’s encourage one another. Leave your ideas in the comments!
