For Geography, instead of our usual A Child’s Geography,by Ann Voskamp {soooo good, by the way}, we are studying Christmas around the world. I have some great information about how different countries around the world celebrate Christmas.
Of course in Bible time, we are reading Luke 2. Then each morning after our Bible time we are singing Christmas carols-practicing some for our church performance coming up, and some just for fun!
We have read several great Christmas books aloud: Jacob’s GiftandThe Tale of Three Trees
.
Composer Study: Learning about Handel and listening to his works, which of course include Handel’s Messiah!
I am going to find some artwork relating to Christmas for art study.
And of course lots of baking will be taking place…cookies, fudge, and breads.
We are also doing fun crafts, and I am incorporating Christmas in wherever I can. For instance, during math for my first grader, I cut out a green tree with some red circles. On each of the red circles I wrote out an addition problem. Then in the tree I drew circles with various numbers. His job was to paste the correct math problem on the circle with the answer. Simple, yet fun math practice!
Homeschool during this time doesn’t have to be stressful. Incorporating Christmas into subjects is fun, easy, and educational…and of course keeps us focused on the reason for the season!
