The Miracle of the Butterfly…He Makes All Things New

Butterflies are a magnificent creation that displays God’s nature in every detail.

Last year we studied them more in depth and we absolutely were fascinated by this movie:

You can’t ignore God as Creator after watching it. The way they know to migrate thousands of miles to the same exact spot each year, having never been there before is mind boggling. How they completely become a new creature when they undergo metamorphosis is incredible. Their old self completely becomes new. There is so much about the butterfly that fascinates me, but most of all it points to the creativity, power, and majesty of our Creator.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17

A few weeks back my kids were thrilled to find several caterpillars amongst the carrots in our garden.
My four year immediately adopted one as a “pet.”

They didn’t even look real. They looked like they had been painted by a paintbrush. What a beautiful gift.

We looked them up online to discovered they were swallowtails. We read about how we could possibly catch some and see if they would grow into butterflies before our eyes.

Well, after catching some and feeding them for a few days…they devoured parsley and carrot tops by the way…we finally woke to  a beautiful surprise! A cocoon!!

Now we wait, we wait to see if a butterfly will emerge. We are so excited! I read that it may take all winter, so we will see…

Butterflies are such a miracle. Truly. If you research them you will be amazed.

God surely displays His character in nature. Just as Romans1:20  says…

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Romans 1:20

We can not deny our wonderful Creator when we look at something as miraculous as a butterfly. Take time to notice Creation. Thank God that He reveals Himself to us through it. Enjoy the miracles around us each day.

It reminds me most of all of what God has done for me. He has made me brand new. Just like the butterfly that has undergone metamorphosis, I am still parts of my old self but all rearranged into a new creation. That process took awhile, but it was worth it. Thank you Lord for making me new!
