Simply...Family, Simply...Living For Him

Learning to Serve…

We had an amazing Bible time this morning.  One of the most memorable we have ever had.

We began reading about Jesus’s journey to the cross.  We read about Jesus washing the disciples feet:

“so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”

At a time in our lives when our family is focusing on how to serve the Lord fully, this was really special.
We discussed the importance of this…How in Jesus’ time, washing feet was a servant’s duty.  And how feet would have been very dirty…they were the main means of travel, lack of shoes, etc…
And here was Jesus, washing them.
The disciples were astonished.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Yes. He washed Peter’s feet.  He washed all of their feet.  Amazing…
We talked about serving each other.  How Jesus, King of Kings, Lord of All, came and gave us the ultimate example of service…His death on the cross…

Oh make us more like Him, and less like US.
“Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”

After our reading, we sang.  We sang our hearts out.  Then we prayed to be more like Jesus.
Then, we each took a turn washing each others feet.  As we poured the water, we said, “Help me to serve…”
What a beautiful morning….Thank you Lord for your example…

As we approach Good Friday, I am so grateful for the Cross…so grateful for Jesus…so grateful to be a servant.
My prayer is for my kids to understand the depth of serving, to understand that He came to die for them. The ultimate sacrifice.  The ultimate servant…

“Well done, good and faithful servant!”Matthew 25:23
