Looking ahead…

I’m thinking alot about the school year.  We are in the midst of 2 weeks of full day camp at our church.  So when that is over, we will take it easy for a few days, and then I am planning on getting a start on some schoolwork.  We will not officially start our school schedule until September, but I have some ideas to get a jump start on things.  We will enjoy the summer still and the loose schedule of summer, but sort of transition into the school year in August.

We also plan to visit the Statue of LIberty in September.  That will be so much fun.  I know the kids will love it.  We have been talking about going for awhile, so  I am glad we will finally do it!

I am still planning.  I put together many lessons to get us started, and I am planning on following the Charlotte Mason method as much as we can.  This is what we have so far:

Family Work

  • Bible- Morning devotions daily, finish “Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends”
  • Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Anatomy and Physiology ~ I LOVE LOVE LOVE this curriculum.  I went through all of the lessons and there are so many awesome hands on activities throughout.  And they don’t require a ton of materials or complicated steps which I love! Perhaps we can incorporate a trip to The Franklin Museum in Philadelphia this year
  • TruthQuest: Volume II~ We will pick up where we left off in history and begin studying post Revolutionary War America.  I am VERY excited about this.
  • Geography Songs CD~ All three kids have memorized all  50 states.  Now its onto 250+ countries!
  • Composer Study: First we will study Bach using “Mr. Bach Comes to Call”
  • Artist Study: Matisse

We are using the workbox system, modified.  I have plastic bins for hanging folders.  Each will contain their asisgnments for the day (inidividual work, family we will do together)  I also have various “extras” to use for variety sometimes, or to pick from when I am working with one child and another needs me.  They can pick an extra to work on while they wait for me.
This is still a work in progress.  I will update when it is final!
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”
1Corinthians 15:58
