We have become a society of grazers. Well, maybe even gluttons. But we started out grazing. You know grazing on junk here and there, just because we can. We have so much readily available to us, we tend to nosh all day long.
Well, I’m not talking about food, although I believe the above to be true about food too. I’m talking about the mental junk we allow into our minds.
We have so much readily available information passing through our minds daily. We scroll through the internet, our phones, tv, magazines, you name it.
We graze all day long and don’t realize just how much we are actually filling up on junk. And just as we do the same with food, we eventually end up feeling awful, unhealthy, and overstuffed.
What we put into our bodies matters and what we put into our minds matters just as much.
We graze on junk. Physically and spiritually.
A headline here. A blog post there. A video. A news program. Too many comments on a post. Endless photos of friends, strangers, and acquaintances.
But is it worth it? Is it good healthy information that is fruitful? Or is it junk that depletes us?
I don’t often read full articles or open videos. I generally scan headlines and once in while open one. But all that scanning is still clutter. It’s hard to turn off the noise we put into our minds. It’s hard to focus on our own thoughts in real life with so much mental clutter.
What you put into your mind feeds your soul. So make sure to monitor your intake and know when enough is enough.
Feast on Truth
Don’t graze on junk but feast on goodness. Feast on truths so that the junk becomes less appealing. Feast on His Word. Before you know it, you are full of goodness and the junk is less appetizing.
You will stop grazing and start gazing into His eyes.
The more we are filled up with Him, the less we will graze on the junk.
Start fueling your soul with the nourishment it needs- His Word and His Truth.
Jesus is Enough
This summer, I am hosting a women’s retreat in Gettysburg, PA. In a world of excess, we are going to focus on that fact that Jesus is enough. The world will tell you YOU are enough. But truly, HE is enough. He is all we need. We don’t rely on ourselves, or earthly comforts, but on Him alone. I have lived with it all stripped away, and I have seen that yes, Jesus is enough. In fact, Jesus is MORE than enough.
