Yesterday’s post about How Do I Stand Being with My Kids All Day? received a great response!  I am grateful for all of the kind notes and responses that I received. How encouraging! If you haven’t read it, you can click here to read it.

Yesterday we also celebrated our annual “Sun Day.” We don’t take off during the winter for “snow days” so every year we wait for the first really warm day of spring and have a “Sun day.” I surprised the kids when they woke up and told them, “No school! It’s our sun day!” I told them they could choose what we could do with the day. They chose to spend the morning outside with a picnic blanket, chairs, and books! They lounged out reading, swinging on our rope swing, and looking at bugs. We also took note of the buds that are finally coming out all around. (I snuck in lots of learning 😉

Then they had a picnic lunch in the yard and afterwards we headed to a local state park. We sat by the river, explored, and just enjoyed the warmth! Oh, it felt so good after a very loooong winter!

On our way home, we stopped for Icee’s (of course!)

What a fun day. Sometimes just not doing the usual routine and being surprised by a treat is just what we need. (Mommy just as much as the kids!) I am thankful we started this tradition at the beginning of our homeschool journey!

How about you? Do you take off for sunny days or snow days? What traditions has your family started?
