As I ponder on Thanksgiving what I am thankful for, the list is too long to write. But I will highlight one thing in particular that I thank God for each day.
His provision.
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Matthew 6:25-34
We had this passage read at our wedding, and it has pretty much been the most important one I turn to throughout our marriage.
We have never, ever been rich.
But our needs have always been met.
He has always, always, provided for us.
We’ve been through two job losses, both times while I was pregnant.
And still, He provided.
We decided early on that me being home with the kids was a priority. I never expected to be homeschooling as well…
And still, He provided.
Yet our decision was never about, when we make enough money I will stay home…
it was always,
I will stay home and we will make do…
because quite frankly, it is hard….
But all of our needs are met.
We don’t afford luxuries as so many do. Eating out is treat. The kids wear hand me downs from kind friends.
But all of our needs are met.
God is so faithful. We have sought HIm, and He keeps His promises.
He makes it work for us.
We are so rich in things beyond wealth,
and that is what I am thankful for….
