I learn so much from my kids…
Recently my daughter Grace had a mid-year evaluation for her violin class. She scored well. Mostly 3’s and 4’s out of 5.
As I scanned through the scores, noting what she did well on and what she needed improvement…
finger placement…3
rhythm…4
scales…3
music reading…3
and then there was-
attitude…5
Attitude. It struck me with such joy that she received a 5 for attitude. She has always been a pretty cheerful girl, full of life, loving life….So I wasn’t surprised, but it gave me a great feeling knowing that this was her highest scoring category.
I explained to her that nothing is more important than attitude. I don’t care if she scored 1’s and 2’s on her technique, as long as it wasn’t in attitude.
Attitude is so important, and we need to have a good attitude, even when we don’t feel like it. Even when it’s raining. Even when the baby was up all night and I didn’t sleep. Even when I’m sick. Even when the bank account is dwindling. Even when I just don’t feel like it.
I am still to be aware of my attitude. And need to adjust it accordingly. To keep my eyes on Him.
I love that her attitude is overall usually positive, and her attitude is to look for the good in people. She is the most non-judgmental child I know. She loves everyone. She thinks everyone is her best friend, and would never purposely think badly about people. (note-with the exception of her brother!)
It’s a lesson learned from a child. To have a positive attitude. To have an attitude that puts others in high regard. To have an attitude that pleases God.
Philippians 2:5 says, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”
Thank you Grace for teaching Mommy that lesson…
