He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:8
We have always loved this verse. We have clung to it many times. Today I am clinging to it.
And to this one:
Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior, The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to go on the heights.
Habakkuk 3:17-19
I love the picture of the first one. A tree, with its roots firmly planted in the water, will bear fruit. For us, keeping ourselves firmly fixed on Jesus, rooted in the Word, and He will makes us bear fruit-even in drought. What a promise. Always remaining green.
And then the second one…Habkakkuk…says though there is nothing left…nothing…He will rejoice in the Lord! And the Lord will make our feet like those of a deer, leaping and bringing us to the heights.
Such beautiful images to hold onto. Knowing that God’s Word is always true, is such a comforting fact. That even when things seem dismal here, the Lord has plans for us.
I am resting in Him today. Knowing that He knows what is best for me. Keeping my roots planted in Him, soaking in the water, and looking forward to the heights on the horizon.
Amen.
