Great ideas for Simplifying Christmas! (Advent)
Here are some great ideas from some fellow readers for Advent:
~Attending a weekly Advent service
~Family devotions that are special for Advent
~We are doing our nativity a little different for Advent: Each day we will take out a different piece of the manger…an animal, a shepherd, etc., leading up to Jesus on Christmas morning. Each day when we take out the piece we will talk about how that specific piece must have felt during Jesus’ birth. What it would have been like to be a donkey there, a shepherd, Joseph, Mary, etc. We’ll talk about the significance of each piece.
~And, finally, thanks to my friend Amy for sharing this next idea. It is awesome!
“We have an advent calendar that I made which runs through Epiphany. Each day there is a little bag the twins get to open and see what is inside. For example, one of the little bags has a cross-stitched hand on the front. I will have the kids give a “helping hand” that day for a neighbor or friend and do it anonymously. This is a great way for us to help keep the focus on serving others and sharing God’s love with those around us. The kids really love it!”
Thanks Amy for sharing!
Keep the ideas coming! I love reading them all, and sharing them with others is a blessing!
Also, and most importantly, please pray for all of us to simplify our Christmas and
keep the focus on Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!
