Simply...Family, Simply...Living For Him

Simplify your home…get rid of TV!

Ok, so we do have a TV.  But a few years ago we decided to give up cable TV.  At the time the reasons to do so were mainly financial.

However, we will not bring back the cable TV, even if we can afford it now, or even if it does work out cheaper with all the specials available nowadays.

We have very limited TV…about 5 channels.  (we are supposed to get up to channel 13 but only up to 7 comes in clear)  And it is a blessing!

TV these days is so full of junk.  Junk that I don’t want to fill my mind or my children’s mind with.  It would be too easy to get sucked into such ill edifying time wasters.

It’s funny, we have noticed when we are on vacation and the hotel has cable TV, we spend a great deal of time clicking through channels.  Then we find something and realize we had seen that episode already years ago when we had cable!

Not having cable TV is a blessing because we use Netflix to choose programs that our whole family can enjoy…commercial free!  We do not fill our minds with inappropriate shows.  It is really refreshing.

Not having cable TV forces us at times to find things to actually “do” rather than passively sit in front of a show…we can play Uno (a family favorite), go outside and play, etc.  The kids spend most nights outside after dinner playing man hunt or tag with Daddy until bedtime.

I am so glad we have limited TV in our home.  Not only does it help us to focus on our family, but it helps us find new things to DO with each other!  And of course to Simply Live…For Him!

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. ” Colossians 3:1
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
