In a world that is so full of busyness and glorifies material “stuff”, why would we want to simplify?
The world seems to feel that the more stuff we have, the more we matter. The more we must mean.
I disagree.
In God’s eyes we matter simply because we are His and He created us.
Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Face it~the stuff doesn’t matter.
For me, having material “stuff” causes stress. One reason is that it is more to take care of. Another is, I begin to worry about finances. I simply do not want things I can’t afford.
The more stuff we have, the more we want. We also have to examine our heart and why it is we want more. Do we truly need something? Do we want it just to keep up with others? To make ourselves look good to others? I think if we examine our heart earnestly we will know if we truly need something or not.
Keeping our lives simple gives us more time and energy to devote to things that are truly important.
