This week we are tying up loose ends, as we are nearly complete with our school year. We worked through winter many days when most schools were off, and quite frankly when you homeschool, you can get SO much done each day, that we really are just about finished! Grace and Luke both finished their math curriculum this past month, we completed Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy last week, and Grace is already in 4th grade spelling. We are continuing our history studies and reading all we can about The Revolutionary War. Today we watched “Johnny Tremain.” What a great movie and perfect for our studies. It’s amazing to hear John (5) tell Steve at dinner time all about the “Redcoats”, patriots, Paul Revere, and the Boston Tea Party. We are all really enjoying learning history.
We are all ready to be on a break. We will continue reading through June and we plan on taking a few field trips. We are going to Washington’s Headquarters in Morristown, NJ as well as going to see “Hubble” Imax which will go great with our Astronomy studies this year. I plan on having the kids keep reading each day, and of course reading their Bibles. We also plan on working hard in our garden. Then in July we will visit Jamestown and possibly Yorktown in Virginia. This will be awesome after all we have learned this year.
Next year is going to be very exciting. John will officially be in kindergarten, although I have already started kindergarten with him this year. He has just begun reading 3 letter words, he is doing kindergarten math, and right along with his brother and sister he learned all 50 states this year as well as all the planets. He knows more about The Revolutionary War than I ever did before homeschooling! I think he will be just fine. More importantly, while I know all of these things are positive, I can see that his behavior has really changed this year and his heart is so full. That to me, is what it is all about. I am excited to see what God has in store for him next year.
Luke and Grace will begin 2nd and 4th grade respectively next year. I can’t believe what just seems like yesterday when I was called to homeschool, is now going on our 5th year. God has been so good.
Right now though, I am going to relax and enjoy my favorite time of the year. The beginning of summer is just about here, and I am so thankful for what has been our best year yet homeschooling!
Here are a few highlights from the past month:
